Twenty years ago the movie Bull Durham graced the big screen, and Friday Costner admits he feels privileged to be apart of something big.
“A movie’s value is when you’re willing take it off the shelf and play it for your son or daughter or your sweetheart in twenty years, and I think we succeeded that,” Costner said.
Costner played Crash Davis in the film back in 1988, but Friday he hit the field at the Durham Athletic Part as Kevin Costner, the musician. He said his whole reason for taking his band on the road is to give fans something more than an interview.
“This is the perfect moment for the band because it’s why I decided to do music because I find myself around the world, around the country often times talking about the movies and in this instance a twenty year anniversary,” Costner said.
Costner was asked his thoughts on a sequel to Bull Durham. He said he’d sign on under one condition; the writing had to be great.
“We hit a homerun with the first one, and that is mostly because of Rod Shelton who wrote the film,” Costner said. “The writing would have to be spectacular in Bull Durham 2 because we set the bar so high.”
Costner’s 13-month-old son and wife also made the trip to the Bull City for the 4th. He took the stage at 7:30.
The fireworks show was postponed to tomorrow night.
