DURHAM, N.C. -- An accident involving three cars claimed the life of a 74-year-old man Friday night, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Willie Joe Smith of Durham was killed when the Buick he was riding in was struck head-on by a Dodge pickup.
Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 9:39 p.m. on Red Mill Rd when a Dodge pickup crossed the center line and struck a Buick head-on. The Buick was then struck by a Saturn.
Seven other people were injured in the accident and taken to Duke Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
