RALEIGH, N.C. -- A major producer of heavy building materials is planning a cement plant for New Hanover County.

Titan America LLC announced plans to build a plant in Castle Hayne. A statement from Gov. Mike Easley's office said the plant will create 161 new jobs during the next three years and a company investment of $469 million.

 

The statement said the plant was made possible with a grant of $300,000 from the One North Carolina Fund.

 

Titan America has plants throughout the eastern United States and in Canada. It employs more than 2,000 people. The Virginia-based company's operations include cement plants, ready-mix concrete plants, concrete block plants, quarries, import and rail terminals and fly-ash production facilities.

 

The average annual wage will be $72,068, more than the New Hanover County average wage of $33,228.
