APEX, N.C. - The Law Enforcement Oath of Honor has been the code that Chief Jack Lewis said Apex Police officers follow their entire career.
“They do hard work but good work every day to make our community safer,” Lewis said.
These men and women were recognized for their service at the 2008 Apex Awards and Swearing-In Ceremony held at town hall. Sgt Jacques Gilbert received Officer of the Year, just one of the many awards of the night.
“I’m very ecstatic about it, it’s a great surprise,” Gilbert said.
There was also a very special person in the audience that accepted and award on behalf of her son Robert Price, who is serving in the military overseas. Throughout her son’s third deployment she said the Apex Police Department has been there for her.
“That’s what being a part of the Apex PD is all about, we’re family and one another,” mother of officer Judi Price said.
Chief Lewis said the awards ceremony is not only to honor the officers but also their families who have sacrificed throughout the years.
“We ask these men and women to be away from their family on Christmas, weekends and birthdays but to serve the community,” Lewis said.
Two new officers were also welcomed to the force in a swearing in ceremony while others were recognized for their community involvement.
The awards ceremony was held on behalf of Police Week which is May 11 – 17. May 15 is Police Memorial Day.
