RALEIGH, N.C. - Candidates for two legislative seats have asked for primary runoffs next month.
The State Board of Elections said Kathy Taft and state Rep. Kenny Furr made separate requests before Thursday's noon deadline.
Taft finished second to Don Davis in the six-way race for the Democratic nomination for the 5th Senate District seat which covers Greene, Pitt and Wayne counties. Davis failed to receive more 40 percent of the vote, which is required to avoid a runoff.
Furr, whose 67th House District includes Stanly, Union and Montgomery counties, asked for a runoff with challenger Justin Burr in a Republican primary.
The runoffs would be held June 24.
Earlier this week, John Brooks asked for a runoff with Mary Fant Donnan in the Democratic primary for labor commissioner.
